Couple of Roamers was recently tagged in a fun post by Chandrima from Travel Stories Untold. I thought it was a fun post for our readers to get to know us a little more and connect with other travel bloggers. I hope you enjoy reading this post as much as I enjoyed writing it!
Where are you from in the world?
I (Edgar), was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, the land of great pizza, Coney Island and the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. I met Laurie a few years after my parents moved us to New Jersey. Laurie is from Monmouth Beach, New Jersey, born and raised, blocks away from the beach.
Have you been overseas? When / where?
Before our 6 month trip overseas, I had only visited Puerto Rico, Germany and Mexico. Laurie had visited Mexico and Belize. We've always wanted to travel more but never found the time with our limited vacation time from work and our financial obligations. After we decided to sell our house, pay down our bills and take 6 months off from work, we have visited 27 countries across Europe, Asia, South America and Central America. Now that we have this trip under our belts, we plan on visiting many more countries around the world and living our lives to the fullest.
Do you prefer summer or winter? Why?
Laurie and I are on opposite sides of the spectrum. She loves the summer! Living by the beach, she loves swimming in the ocean and everything else the summer represents in New Jersey. I've always leaned toward winter weather. Football (American), hooded sweatshirts, Thanksgiving and Christmas are all reasons I love the winter. However, as I've gotten older I've come to appreciate the summer months because they are so short where we live and the winters have gotten longer.
Where is somewhere you would love to travel to?
Um, the rest of the world? I want to see it all. Haha. On my journey to see the world, I'd like to visit Japan next. I would love to see the countryside in Japan as well as the high tech metropolises. I find Japanese culture so interesting and the food amazing! Definitely on the top of my list.
Summer or winter fashion?
Neither of us are much into fashion. I prefer clothes that I can workout in and wear out in a casual setting. Laurie would prefer to wear shorts and flip-flops all year round. So I guess summer for us.
Name your essential makeup items for the beach.
I don't wear make-up, so this question isn't applicable. Laurie, hardly wears any. But if I had to choose one thing we bring to the beach it's sunblock. SPF 30-50. Don't want to get burned!
Are you currently saving up for a trip?
Does spontaneously booking trips and paying for it later count? If so, then yes! Whenever I see a good deal for a place I'm interested in, I usually book it then pay for it later. Maybe not the smartest move but it works for me. I usually pay it off that same month so I don't get charged high interest rates.
Do you like/dislike traveling?
Um…Yes, we love traveling!! Who doesn't?
Name a place in the world you would love to shop.
Not much of a shopper here. I find most of what I need on Amazon.
What is your favorite accent in the world to hear?
I think my favorite would be the Irish accent. They speak fast like I do, curse often and are just fun people to be around! I hear an Irish accent and I know I'm in for a good time.
How many countries have you visited?
27 visited, with no end in sight.
Why do you travel?
I've asked myself this same question. Why do I have the need to travel? Is it to escape life, my daily routine? Maybe that has a little to do with it. Routine can be deadly. But I believe there's more to it. I believe the reason I travel is because it fulfills me. Traveling is something I need to do, it's when I'm at my happiest, exploring new places, meeting new people, experiencing new things. I don't think this wanderlust will ever be fully quenched.
Favorite city or country?
This is a tough choice as most of the cities and countries we visited we loved. But if I had to choose one, I'd choose Barcelona. Everything from the nightlife to the culture I loved. We had so much fun while there we ended up staying a couple extra days. Truly a beautiful city with lots to offer.
Most memorable experience abroad.
The most memorable experience I had abroad was hiking the Inca Trail in Peru. 4 days and 3 nights spent in the mountains of Peru, hiking along the Inca Trail, sleeping in tents and learning about the culture was simply amazing. It is hands down the best thing I've ever done, humbling and life changing, I suggest everyone to do it once in their lifetime.
